YMCA Global Explorers Camp Hosts Successful ‘Korean Day’
IFF and KCCF Partnership Sparks Strong Interest in Korean Culture
[Philadelphia, PA] — The Global Explorers Camp, organized by the International Festival Foundation (IFF) in partnership with the Korean Culture Community Foundation (KCCF), was held with great success at the North Penn YMCA.
The special “Korean Day” featured about 10 volunteer cultural ambassadors from KCCF who introduced more than 40 international students to Korean traditions, language, music, and food through hands-on activities. This marks the first YMCA program designed specifically for the non-Korean community, highlighting the students’ high level of interest and active participation in Korean culture.
This year, among cultural programs representing five different countries, Korea was selected, with KCCF taking a leading role in the program. The event was directed by KCCF President Sharon Hartz and supported by cultural ambassadors, Korean American Association President Kevin Kim, teachers from the Korean Schools in the Mid Atlantic Chapter, and Event Chair Andrea Duffy. YMCA representative Bob Varge was also present to celebrate the occasion.
One of the biggest achievements of the event was the enthusiasm and curiosity shown by the 40 students who eagerly engaged in learning about Korean culture. Organizers expressed hopes that “Korean Day” will become an annual tradition at the YMCA in the years ahead.
Andrea Duffy, the event chair, remarked, “I didn’t expect the students to show such strong interest in Korean culture. We are deeply grateful for the dedication and passion of the KCCF volunteers.”
Both KCCF and IFF plan to institutionalize “Korean Day” as a yearly program, continuing their mission to promote Korean culture while strengthening ties with the local community.

[필라델피아, PA] — International Festival Foundation(IFF)이 주최하고 미주한국문화재단(KCCF)이 파트너로 참여한 글로벌 익스플로러 캠프(Global Explorers Camp)가 North Penn YMCA에서 성황리에 열렸다.
이번 ‘코리안 데이(Korean Day)’에는 약 10명의 전문 KCCF 문화대사 봉사자들이 참여해 40여 명의 외국인 학생들에게 한국의 전통, 언어, 음악, 음식 등을 직접 체험할 수 있는 뜻깊은 시간을 제공했다. 이번 캠프는 YMCA에서 한인 사회가 아닌 외국인 커뮤니티를 대상으로 진행된 첫 프로그램으로, 한국 문화에 대한 학생들의 높은 관심과 적극적인 참여가 돋보였다.
올해 캠프에는 5개국 문화 프로그램 중 한국이 선정되어 KCCF가 협엽으로 주도적으로 한국 문화를 소개했으며, 이날 교육은 미주한국문화재단 샤론황회장의 집도아래, 문화재단 문화대사들과 함께 김경택 필라델피아 한인회장, 동중부 한국학교협의회 필라델피아 지부 교사들, 행사 위원장 Andrea Duffy의 감독아래 YMCA대표 Bob Varge 등이 참석해 자리를 빛냈다.
특히 약 40여 명의 학생들이 한국 문화에 대한 큰 호기심과 배우려는 열정을 보이며 적극적으로 참여한 것이 이번 행사의 가장 큰 성과였다. 이번 행사는 한인 사회에서 YMCA 프로그램을 통해 외국인을 대상으로 진행되고 있으며, 앞으로 매년 한국의날도 설정, 정례화되길 기대하고 있다.
Andrea Duffy 위원장은 “학생들이 한국 문화에 이렇게 큰 관심을 보일 줄 몰랐다”며 “KCCF 봉사자들의 헌신과 열정에 감사드린다”고 전했다.
KCCF와 IFF는 이번 행사를 계기로 매년 ‘코리안 데이’를 정례화하고, 앞으로도 한국 문화를 널리 알리며 지역 사회와의 협력을 강화해 나갈 계획이다.
